To become an IDI Qualified Administrator you must complete the IDI Qualifying Seminar (QS). Attending the IDI Qualifying Seminar gives you all the tools you need in order to administer the IDI to groups and individuals.
Public IDI Qualifying Seminars are conducted as an interactive online training over three days for 4.5 hours per day from 12:30-5:00pm Eastern Time, in which participants are trained and licensed to use the Intercultural Development Inventory. In order to successfully complete the Qualifying Seminar (QS) and obtain an IDI Qualified Administrator (QA) license, attendance is required for the entirety of the seminar. IDI, LLC also offers the option for Private Qualifying Seminars, with a minimum registration of 10 people.
In addition to full attendance at the 3-day training, QS participants will need to complete preparatory work prior to and during the QS. This preparation will require approximately 3 hours of time leading up to the QS plus 1 hour of work during the evenings of both Days 1 & 2 of the seminar. This outside preparation is in addition to the three 4.5-hour sessions that constitute the IDI QS. Successful completion of these requirements and consent to the IDI License Agreement is required to use the IDI Assessment.
Many prospective IDI Qualified Administrators (QAs) attend the QS because they will take the IDI back to their organizations and educational institutions. There are also many QAs who are consultants who use the IDI in their practice.
The IDI is widely used and well-known, and is a reliable and valid measure of intercultural competence. The IDI can be used to assess where individuals and groups are in their intercultural development along the Intercultural Development Continuum (IDC). In addition to their IDI results, individuals completing the IDI and participating in a one-on-one debrief with an IDI QA will also receive an Intercultural Development Plan (IDP) - a guided document designed to assist them in continuing to develop intercultural competence. The IDI can also be used in conjunction with other curriculum, workshops, or coaching, etc.
