The IDI Group report does not explicitly state if the range of Developmental Orientations (DO) is considered wide or narrow. This is because there are a variety of possibilities that could lend itself to a more wide or narrow range of orientations.
Wide Range of Developmental Orientations
A range of Developmental Orientations (DO) is considered wide if:
- Respondents' Developmental Orientation (DO) scores are across a wide range of orientations (four or more Developmental Orientations)
- There is a mixture of scores within both monocultural and intercultural mindsets
A wide range suggests the group reflects a lack of consistency on how the group makes sense of and adapts behavior to cultural differences and commonalities. In effect, the group has both monocultural mindsets and intercultural mindsets at work. In cases where there is a wide range of Developmental Orientations within a group, the experience others have with group members across difference is likely to vary.
Example of a wide Range of Developmental Orientations:
This is just an example. There are a variety of configurations of DO scores that would reflect a wide Range.

Narrow Range of Developmental Orientations
A range of Developmental Orientations (DO) is considered narrow if:
- All or the majority of profiles are clustered close together (all or most respondents’ DO scores are within one or two orientations)
- All or the majority of the participants' scores are primarily within the monocultural or the intercultural mindsets
A narrow range suggests the group has a more consistent perspective they use when interacting with cultural differences and similarities.
Examples of a narrow Range of Developmental Orientations:
These are just examples. There are a variety of configurations of DO scores that would reflect a narrow Range.
