Who in our organization should become an IDI QA?

IDI Qualified Administrators (QAs) come from many roles and departments. There is no required title or background—anyone in your organization can become a QA. What matters most is selecting individuals who are well-positioned to support learning, development, and ethical use of the IDI over time.

Completion of the IDI Qualifying Seminar (QS) prepares participants to:

  • Administer the IDI
  • Share IDI results with individuals and groups through Individual and Group Debriefs
  • Engage IDI respondents in basic developmental conversations related to their IDI results

Deciding who should attend a QS

When identifying who in your organization should complete the Qualifying Seminar, consider the following:

Organizational goals
What are your goals for using the IDI? For example, are you aiming to support individual development, strengthen team effectiveness, or build intercultural competence across the organization? The best QA candidates will align with your intended outcomes.

Role alignment
How will the QA role fit within this person’s current position or responsibilities? Being a QA is usually an ongoing role, not a one-time activity.

Time availability
Will this person have sufficient time to administer the IDI and conduct Individual and Group Debriefs?

Relevant experience (helpful but not required)
While no specific background is required to become an effective QA, experience in areas such as coaching or facilitation, adult learning, intercultural education, organizational development, or leadership may enhance the QA’s effectiveness and support your overall IDI project.

Number of QAs
Depending on your goals, it may be beneficial to train more than one QA, especially across different departments or functions. A cross-functional QA team can help integrate the IDI more broadly and sustain its impact over time.

Important use guidelines

The IDI is a developmental tool and may not be used for hiring, placement, or promotion decisions.
